Living Wills

Some of our supporters have expressed an interest in providing a gift while they are living – a gift that they can see in action.

This is wonderful as then we can thank them and let them know how their gift will be used to reach more riders.

If you would like to know more about our most pressing needs, please contact us and ask about how you can contribute to the vision that our charity has for the future.

How we help

There are many significant therapeutic benefits that therapeutic horse riding offers. The warmth and dynamic movement of the horse gently enhance relaxation, flexibility, and balance, leading to improved posture and coordination and so much more. But did you know that each rider often requires the assistance of up to four individuals? These include the coach, the horse leader, and two side-walkers – so you can see why our volunteers are so important!

There are so many things that make up the cost of a ride. That means that a gift in your will is invaluable. Your gift will be used to make sure that riding can continue and we remain by their side.

Help to “Reach More Riders and Change More Lives”!

Stories for You

It’s good to know that other people are also planning for the future and making the world a better place. Here is a supporter who wanted to share their story about how they decided to become a bequestor for New Zealand Riding for the Disabled.

Dorothy’s Story

Dorothy wins the race!
As a 39-year-old, Dorothy made the decision to participate in a harness racing event in Cambridge in 1979.
This was ground-breaking at the time – Dorothy was the only woman racing against a field of men in this race. And she won! Dorothy remembers her father’s reaction at the time – he was so delighted about her win and very pleased that his independent daughter had achieved such a wonderful result.
In April 2024 (35 years after winning that first race against men) a race was named after Dorothy and it was called “The Dorothy Cutts Invitational”. The race is for women drivers – with only six from Australia and six from New Zealand.
Dorothy has had plenty of experience at her family dairy farm and was involved with milking and also in exercising the trotting horses on the farm with her father for many years. The dairy farm was sold years ago, but Dorothy is still interested in the farming sector.
She continues to take a keen interest in horses and is also a dog lover, although she doesn’t have any dogs at home these days.
Dorothy was a volunteer at Te Aroha RDA for a number of years and now lives in Northland, where she still enjoys keeping up with what Riding for the Disabled is doing across the country from the comfort of her armchair. Dorothy might have slowed down a bit but not very much!
Dorothy is a great supporter and has told us that she has decided to leave a gift in her will for New Zealand Riding for the Disabled. Dorothy says “I think that it’s better for charities if they are aware ahead of time about bequests, so I was happy to let them know”.
We are so lucky to have people like Dorothy making a difference for riders now and into the future.
Thank you to Dorothy and all of our supporters.
