Meet the Team

NZRDA Board

Jane Neale

Chair, RDA Member

A lifelong involvement with horses through Pony Club, Riding Schools and competition combined with work in schools alongside children with special needs led to Jane being a part of the group that started up West Coast Riding for the Disabled in 2010. From there Jane joined the Board in 2016, becoming Chair in 2023. She has seen huge growth in the professionalism of RDA over the years, and is excited to be part of this continued forward direction.

Kevin Nielsen

RDA Member

Kevin is the President of New Plymouth Riding for the Disabled, a position he has held for 6 years. Kevin looks forward to continuing the work begun to ensure sustainability of the organisation at a national level. Kevin brings to the Board his experience of: 9 years on the Board of Hospice New Zealand; 9 years as an elected member of the Taranaki District Health Board; Trustee of Conductive Education Taranaki; Founding trustee of Enabling Good Lives Taranaki.

Elisha Olds

RDA Member

Elisha has been involved with RDA for over 13 years. She is the General Manager of Tauranga RDA and has been in the position for 10 years. Elisha has been involved in the National team as an operational certifier for the past 7 years. This work has allowed her to meet many of the groups and see first-hand all the dedicated hardworking teams and what they have been achieving. With the ever-changing social environment, it is important for the National body (NZRDA) to adapt and move with the changes. Elisha believes we have made significant leaps forward and we are on an exciting pathway.

Nick Ruane

Co-opted Member

Nick brings a wide range of experience from many sectors, he is a senior and well respected leader in New Zealand’s disability rights community. He is a former DPO leader, being a former elected member of the DPA governing council, he was a board member of Community Connections in 2016, he Co Chaired the Wellington City Council Accessibility Advisory Group from 2016 to 2023. Nick is committed to ensure that NZRDA provides more opportunities for disabled people to enjoy all the benefits that come from riding, that he received from being a rider as a young person. Nick lives with both a physical disability and an invisible disability.

Ellen Cheyne

Co-opted Member

Ellen has 20+ years’ experience working in finance teams in the financial services, retail, infrastructure and professional services sectors. This includes working with small businesses through to large multinationals. Currently Ellen is Chief Financial Officer for the Retirement Income Group Limited, a Trustee of the NZRDA Perpetual Members Trust, a Board member of the NZ Trust of So They Can and a member of the global So They Can Audit and Risk Committee.

Donna Kennedy

Chief Executive

Donna Kennedy is the Chief Executive of New Zealand Riding for the Disabled. She is a Chartered Accountant by trade and is a Fellow of CAANZ and has both an audit and accountancy background. She has been involved volunteering on the ground for nearly 20 years starting at Wellington RDA. She is a Level 5 Qualified Coach who has been coaching for 11 years at Wellington. Donna has held all positions on committee over her tenure and was also on the Board of NZRDA. In June 2020 Donna received a Queens Service Medal for services to people with Disabilities.

Vikki Knight

Manager – Business Services

As Manager – Business Services it’s Vikki’s job to deal with anything business/finance related. Vikki also ensure the NZRDA Office invoices and suppliers are up to date. Vikki has a BA Hons Degree in Applied Social Studies, and has a background in Page Ready Press and Travel/Tourism. Vikki has been the Fund-raiser for Wellington RDA for over 3 years, before bringing her skills to the National Office.

Shireen Maindonald

Manager – Fundraising and Campaigns

Shireen is the Manager – Fundraising Campaigns and is involved with direct mail, regular gifts, major donors, bequests, grants, sponsorships and events. Shireen gained a double degree in Political Studies and Economics, and has a background in banking, marketing and fundraising. With a blend of creativity and spreadsheet savvy, Shireen makes most things happen.

Pip Prebble

Manager – Programmes

Pip is the Manager – Programmes for NZ Riding for the Disabled, as well as a registered Occupational Therapist. Pip’s main role is to provide resources, training and support for all RDA people. Pip has Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Hons) and has worked extensively in the education sector as well as behavioural support and community services. She has a long involvement with RDA for over twenty years including volunteering, coaching and as a therapist. She enjoys supporting learning and developing the capability of our RDA teams.

Suzi Parle

Manager – Operations

Suzi is primarily responsible for overseeing the Operational Certificate Review process for each RDA Group in her role as Manager Operations, working closely with the Operations Coordinators, Manager Programmes and the SCL Team. Suzi has Bachelor of Science (Hons) Animal Health and Welfare and a Post Graduate Diploma in Primary teaching. Upon moving to New Zealand, her background was put to good use in the RDA arena as a volunteer Coach at her local Group and she gained her Level 3 Assistant Coach qualification during this time. Since joining the NZRDA team, Suzi enjoys the opportunity to visit Groups for Operational Certificate Reviews and supporting the consistent implementation of policy and procedure in day to day processes at all RDA Groups across the country.

Jill Paterson

Operations Coordinator

Jill is an Operations Coordinator and works closely with Manager – Operations and Manager – Programmes. Her primary role is to liaise with key people at RDA groups to provide any support required. Jill is a former Chartered Accountant who has volunteered for various organisations over the years including Wellington RDA where she was a volunteer both on the ground and at committee level. This hands-on experience has given her a good understanding of how RDA groups operate and the ability to see things from their perspective.

Bernie Pointon

Operations Coordinator

Bernie is an Operations Coordinator and works closely with Manager- Operations and Manager – Programmes. Her Primary role is to liaise with key people at RDA groups to provide support as required. Bernie has a background in education and is a qualified Early Childhood teacher. Bernie spent many years in teaching and working in the Assessment division at NZQA. Bernie also spent time on committees through her children’s sports and schools, she can understand the workings of volunteering life from a governance perspective.

Maddy Arnold

Business Support Coordinator

In Maddy’s role as Business Support Coordinator she manages the NZRDA social media channels and provides administration support to NZRDA and RDA Groups. With a Bachelor degree in Creative Media Production, Maddy enjoys picking up a camera and using her skills to take photos or videos to capture and showcase the various facets of RDA. Her creative skills are often evident in her design work whether for the website, publications or online content for fundraising and awareness campaigns.

Anne-Marie O'Brien

Business Support Coordinator - Donor Care

Anne-Marie is our Business Support Coordinator – Donor Care. Taking care of all things admin alongside Maddy, her role also focuses on building rapport with our Donors. These relationships are at the core of what we do as they allow us to keep riding on! Anne-Marie has a background in nutrition whilst deviating into various creative suits along the way. Her attention to detail and analytical mindset will be a strength in this role.
